AND IT’S A FUCKING BUICK
Great work there, GM, you managed to out-Ford Ford in terrible decisions. Awesome, what people really wanted - an Encore with accents that seem meant to highlight how ugly it is. No additional power or handling, BUT IT HAS RED ACCENTS.
OH! And why not use your own branding for it since, you know, the “GS” isn’t a famous symbol for buick performance or anything......Oh wait, you already called it “GX”.....Maybe try “GSX”? Ohhhhhh but no, that name is too ful l of heritage. I GOT IT! Take a page from Ford’s book and slap “ST” on there, that seems to be hot with SUVs right now anyways! What does it mean? Eh, doesn’t matter.
Congrats to whoever at Buick kept complaining about how cool the Equinox “Redline” looked and wanted one for your own product line. You got it. But at what cost?
Buick Encore GX ST - “I survived 2020 and all I got was a lousy buick”
Buick Encore GX ST - It’s amazing they put the red accents on there when they know full well those will clash against the always-on left turn signal.
Buick Encore GX ST - The sad part is, this really is the *best* they could do.
Okay....I think I got enough out of my system. It’s been a shitty week at work and then I saw that this monstrosity happened and I needed some catharsis.

It’s a Buick. WTF were you expecting, an Encore Grand National? Encore Stage 1 with a 455?
Nah the peoplw who buy Buicks will buy this and tell people it's "sporty". And they'll be proud of it.

I never said it wouldn’t sell, I’m just complaining that the ST name got used.

I don’t necessarily disagree with any of the above and I know it’s fun to dunk on GM these days, but my sister has one of these and quite frankly it’s pretty nice. Gets good enough mpg and has some nice finishes inside. Decent cargo capacity for a single woman living in the city.

....also I actually do want a Buick encore with like a 300-350hp turbo 6 and AWD with the stage 1 badge on it . But that definitely wouldn’t sell.

You know with the amount of Subaru Forester Sports I seeing running around with the stupid orange accents and dead slow 2.5 motor, I wonder if this might help Buick.
Nahhh, it’s still a Buick. And WHY does Buick need a “Sporty” version. Just stick to your message of luxury ffs.

I don’t hate the standard encore GX, my beef is that once again instead of a small, fun, hot hatch the name is used to denote some fancy trim and no other changes.

I don't get the red highlights in the grill....that frightens me slightly. I get the red line on the bumpers, but not the red grill...

That’s so weird... and totally lame. Doesn’t make any sense at all for them to use “ST”, for exactly the reasons you ju st gave. It’s like they’ re completely unfami liar with their own brand history, ignorant of competitor branding, and don’t even have internet access to look any of this stuff up before announcing it. It’s bafflingly odd.

Yo, it is so slow! (the 2.5 in the Forester) It gives you a little baby little fart of a gasp of power right around ...4100 which feels like screaming in that thing! luckily I can easily get that because ours is a manual but still...

The new ST is the Ford Puma ST. Order from October 2020, on sale January 2021.

Subaru’s make me laugh because of their aggressive throttle tip in. Feels fast at first then reality comes and it’s just making noise. I bet the manual helps some!

some...it’s slowness, bad looks, and cheap interior are balanced by its decent MPG and wild versatility

They could of called it something else though.
Now whenever I look at Ford Pumas on Autotrader, I’ll get these.

Ew. I just do not like Ford’s current small vehicle design language. I’ve only seen one Escape (IIRC you lot call it the Kuga) in a color I didn’t hate it in, and I’ve long since died on the hill that we didn’t get the new Focus and Fiesta over here because I think they’re ugly.

I’m okay about the small cars, it’s the small SUVs I’m not keen on.
They’ve not only crapped on the Puma name, but the Mustang name too.

Why does Honda get so much crap for the black plastic c orners but Ford seemingly gets a pass?

The Hondas are a hot mess. The Fords are slightly restrained.
Have you seen a Type-R in person in white?

I don’t mind the Civic Type R. We saw a step change in it, while the U.S. went from EP3 to FK8 .
Quite a change.
While we had the FN2 and FK2 between it.
A step change.

We didn’t even get the full EP3 experience over here; we had to make do with your Type S, which was called the Si in the US and SiR in Canada. Apparently the 200 bhp version of the engine was originally set to come in it here as well, but from what I understand Acura execs objected because it had the potential to cannibalize sales of the RSX (Integra) Type S, which was more expensive and was getting the same engine. So we had to make do with the 160 bhp and 5-speed manual version for our EP3.

For what it’s worth, I’ve never heard anything negative about build quality of Swindon Civics . If anything, at least the paint on the EP3s was actually better than the Accords and Civics coming out of Ohio and Canada at the time. Paint issues were quite common on North American Civics for several years.

If I recall the last four, I know at least three, gens came out of Swindon, making UKDM, EDM and JDM Civics.
Though Honda will be closing the plant in 2021. Honda have said it’s nothing to do with Brexit.
The likes of Honda, Mitsubishi, etc... aren't doing all that well in the U.K. and Europe.

I’m just not seeing how they’re comparable in excessive black plastic, especially exclusively appearance plastic (almost all of it on the Type R).
The bigger issue is that the Type R design is such a mess and it draws attention to the black plastic that every car company seems to use these days to make a car look “sporty”.

Yeah, after the last Japan-built CTR (the FD2, a 4-door) went out of production, the FN2 entered the market there under the “Type R Euro” name, and they got a limited run of FK2s when that came out.
I wonder where the next Type R will be built, if there is one. (I recently read the current Focus won’t get an RS since the US was the largest market for the last version. That said, I see Type R’s far more often than I do RS’s. ) The Si has been exclusively built in Canada since 2006, but I wonder, if there’s another Type R, will they produce at least some of them at PMC in Ohio where they build the NSX. So far the only non-NSX vehicles to come from there are special editions of the Acura TLX and RDX.

The STs are just as good as the RS in the current gen, and of course they can be tuned up here as there are many Ford performance centres here.
I think Civic production is moving back to Japan but don't quote me on that, it's been a while since I read it in the news last year.

I think I did read that about UKDM Civics. Given that the Civic hatch has sold pretty well over here, I could see either Ohio or Canada starting to produce them as well. Before the EP3 North American Civic hatches were split between the two plants.
